The Canberra Raiders have fallen 34-6 to a classy Sydney Roosters outfit at Allianz Stadium in front of a crowd of 9582.
The Raiders were their own worst enemy throughout the contest, making several sloppy handling errors, some within 10 metres of the opposition try line.
The game got off to a poor start for the Raiders after the Roosters crossed early. Mitchell Pearce set up the try with a cut-out pass to Shaun Kenny-Dowall who crossed in the corner with James Maloney adding the extra two for a 6-0 lead.
Despite some promising attacking displays for the Green Machine the Roosters were able to get back-to-back tries. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck burst through the Raiders defence to score in the 10th minute with Maloney once again converting to give the Roosters a 12 point advantage.
The Roosters were able to continue their point scoring dominance with a try to former Raider Blake Ferguson who was able to break through two desperate Raiders tackles. Maloney again successfully put over the conversion for extra points for a 18-0 lead.
The Green Machine were able to add some respectability to the score before half-time after Jarrod Croker was able to cross. Mitchell Cornish set the play in motion with a creative grubber kick through for Croker. The Raiders Captain successfully converted his own try for a 18-6 deficit going into half-time.
The second half began in very similar circumstances with the Roosters scoring twice within the first 10 minutes of the second half. The first try was to Michael Jennings who found space out wide and the second to Daniel Tupou, who out jumped the Raiders defence to score. Maloney went on to convert one from two to give the Roosters a 22 point lead.
The Roosters were able to add more misery on the Green Machine capitising on various handling errors when the Raiders were close to scoring. The Sydney side made a 70 metre break down the wing with Maloney able to get across the line and convert his own try for a 34-6 lead, and that is where the score remained.
The Green Machine managed to escape the rest of the match without conceding points after Rooster blew back-to-back chances.
