The Raiders travel to Hunter Stadium this weekend with the NRL side striving for three straight wins for the first time in over a decade. We’ve compiled a list of five things we can’t wait to see in Round Three against the Newcastle Knights.
What do you think? Is there anything else you want to see this Saturday? Head over to our Facebook page and let us know!
- A lot has changed in eleven years… or has it?
The Raiders will be looking for three straight wins to start the season for the first time since 2005!
A 42-22 win over the Nathan Brown-coached Dragons was our third consecutive win in 2005. Who coaches our opposition on Saturday? Who else but Nathan Brown!
So, who donned the green of the Raiders that day? Simon Woolford had the ‘C’ next to his name, Alan Tongue was coming off the bench, and Jason Croker was at lock – his nephew will start at five-eighth this weekend. Feel old yet?
- Brenko’s back
Brenko Lee will return to the side for the first time in 2016 with Joseph Leilua out through suspension.
The younger cousin of Edrick Lee, Brenko is a powerful ball runner, possessing a strong fend to ward off would-be tacklers. When you throw in his speed it makes for a highly promising package.
- Edrick raises the bat
Dynamic winger Edrick Lee will suit up for his 50th NRL match this weekend. Hunter Stadium is a happy hunting ground for Lee – his first two tries came against the Knights there in 2012.
The fan favourite has crossed for 28 tries in his 49 appearances to date, after enjoying his most successful season in 2015.
- Bench Boys
The boys on the bench have made a pact to make a massive impact on the contest when they get their chance, and haven’t they delivered so far!
Paul Vaughan, Jeff Lima, Sia Soliola and Kurt Baptiste have been phenomenal to open the Green Machine’s 2016 campaign, powering through a mountain of work in a short space of time.
They will have a massive bearing on this weekend’s result.
- Fantasy favourite Fensom to fire
NRL Fantasy coaches were shattered when workhorse Shaun Fensom was concussed in the opening minute of last weekend’s clash with the Roosters.
Keep an eye out for the two-time Meninga Medallist to make up for lost time with a massive performance against the Knights.
