The Raiders will once again return to their spiritual home of Seiffert Oval in 2017, when they play the Newcastle Knights in a trial match on Saturday February 18.
The match will be the main pre-season showcase for the Raiders ahead of the 2017 season, with the match against the Knights the clubs only official NRL trial before the start of the season proper.
Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart and Raiders CEO Don Furner joined Administrator of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Tim Overall at Seiffert Oval today to officially launch the trial, which is scheduled for a 6.30pm kick-off on February 18.
Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart said taking the game back to the Raiders traditional home was exciting and the club was looking forward to it.
“It’s a privilege for us to be able to come back to our roots here. There’s been a lot of history and great traditions set at this ground for many, many years,” Stuart said. “I know all the players are looking forward to coming to play here. I think we will get a big crowd here with the interest in the game so high.”
Administrator of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Tim Overall said the game would draw interest from right across the region and they were hoping for a bumper crowd at the updated venue.
“It’s very exciting for the whole region. It’s back to Seiffert for the second time. Weather permitting, I would hope we would get over 10,000 here for the game,” Mr Overall said. “We have done lots of improvement, all the catering areas are now first class, the fencing has been replaced around the field and the new irrigation system allows the surface to be in great condition. It’s looking terrific.”
