A Jordan Kahu field goal has given the Broncos a gutsy win in wet conditions as they trumped the Raiders 13-12 at Suncorp Stadium.
It took 43 minutes for the Broncos to find the line after a heavy deluge just before kick-off caused havoc for both teams resulting in a defensive matchup where goal line defence and try-saving tackles featured throughout.
The Raiders lost the services of Josh Hodgson who left the field early in the second half creating a noticeable lack of direction without the English rake on the field.
The wet conditions made it hard for either team to hold the ball with a total of 24 errors made over the match making it hard to score points resulting in both teams going for penalty goals to add to their score-line.
The Broncos opened the scoring early in the match after receiving a penalty right in front of the posts after just four minutes of play and opting to take the two points.
From here the Broncos held their two-point advantage for most of the first half as both teams struggled with the ball and lacked execution on attacking plays.
18-year-old Raiders winger Nick Cotric pulled off a great try saving intercept late in the first half helping the Raiders to then work the ball up the field and get gifted with a penalty right in front of the posts before choosing to even things up with the conversion.
After the break the match was still very much up in the air as both teams sat tied on two points a piece.
But it was the Broncos who came out of the sheds in better form, with Andrew McCullough crossing over right under the posts on his 200th first grade game.
The Broncos then looked like they would run away with the game after Darius Boyd crossed in the corner shortly after to give them a 10-point lead.
With the match on the line, the Raiders started to shift the ball to their danger men on the edges in an attempt to find points.
The move paid off after Jordan Rapana scored a classic Leipana try, becoming the beneficiary of a Joey Leilua flick pass to score in the corner.
With the gap only one converted try and just over 10 minutes on the clock the Raiders turned to Blake Austin to tie the match.
Austin put Jack Wighton through a big hole in the Broncos defensive line before being there in support to score under the posts and tie the match.
With seven minutes left the match turned into a field goal off, as both teams desperately tried to snatch the win in the shadows of full-time.
But it was Jordan Kahu who would win the match for the Broncos, slotting a field goal 30 metres out after the ball shaved the inside of the posts before going over.
The Raiders had one final chance before the full-time siren sounded but Austin's field goal attempt failed to go the distance.
The Raiders return home next week when the face up against the Parramatta Eels at GIO Stadium on Saturday.
