Wet Weather Training

What to do when training ovals are closed, or conditions make it unsafe to train.

Dangerous weather and sports ground closures are inevitable throughout the season. While it’s always up to the coach and team to decide whether to cancel training, there are still ways to meet and grow together as a group. Consider the following alternatives:

  • Video Sessions

Video analysis is a valuable tool for reflection and education. It helps players gain a different perspective, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce what they’re doing well. These sessions encourage discussion, spark new ideas, and enhance understanding of team strategies.

  • Gym Sessions & Group Conditioning

Staying active is crucial, and booking a group strength and conditioning class at a local gym keeps players moving while improving their physical performance. Training together also builds camaraderie, as teammates can push and encourage each other through physical challenges.

  • Team-Building Activities

When training is disrupted, team bonding activities can keep the group connected. Options like ten-pin bowling, laser tag, or paintball can be done in team formations (Forwards, Spine, and Backs) to enhance communication and trust - both essential on the field. Even a simple team breakfast or lunch can strengthen relationships and maintain team morale.
