The Canberra Raiders will wear a special one-off jersey during the 2020 season, in a bid to help raise money for the newly established Raiders Foundation.
The Raiders Foundation has been established in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, to help ensure the ongoing success of the club driving growth both on and off the field.
Money raised from the foundation jersey will be used to help provide an opportunity for young athletes (male and female) to maximise their potential both on and off the field through education and learn the disciplines that are necessary for them to succeed in their chosen career.
The jersey is part of the Foundation’s “Green Forever” package, which is available now through the Australian Sports Foundation website. The Package comes at a cost of $250 (fully tax deductable donation) and will give fans the opportunity to have their name featured on the foundation jersey.
Places on the jersey are limited to 362, which corresponds with the number of players who have represented the Raiders at NRL level (as at end of season 2019). The names will feature in the jersey design and can be an individual’s name or family name (e.g. Mary Smith or Smith Family).
The jersey will be worn in Round 14 home match against the Warriors at GIO Stadium in the club’s foundation round.
Each person who signs up for the “Green Forever” package will also receive a tour of the new Huawei Raiders Centre (upon completion), recognition on the Raiders Foundation website, and a 20% discount off the RRP of the Foundation Jersey sold through www.raidersshop.com.au (available in early 2020).
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the Raiders Foundation has been established to help maintain and support club initiatives and to help establish new programs in the future.
“The Raiders partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation will enable us to achieve long term success both on and off the field,” Furner said. “It will allow us to expand on the many community programs we undertake in Canberra and the surrounding regions.”
Furner said the Foundation jersey was a wonderful way for fans of the club to have a closer relationship with the club and be part of Raiders history.
“This is the first time we’ve undertaken a project like this, that gives fans the opportunity to take to the field with the whole team by having their name embedded on the jersey,” he said. “I’m sure this will prove to be a popular initiative and I’m sure we’ll see the spots fill up quickly.”
