Specsavers Katrina Fanning Shield 2020 Grand Final Preview

The Queanbeyan Blues and the Bushpies will take the field for the Katrina Fanning Shield grand final this Sunday.

Queanbeyan won the first Katrina Fanning Shield in 2017, and will be looking to take home the shield again this year.

The Blues have had a stellar season, winning seven straight games before going down to the Bushpies last weekend 12-10 in the final few minutes.

But the Blues have defeated the Bushpies on two other occasions and Blues five-eighth Jacinta Williams says that her side will go into the grand final with a lot of confidence.

“It’s a lot of confidence knowing we can match them and that we can get over the top. We just need to take it that step further,” Williams said.

Having faced the Bushpies just last weekend, Williams says that while it was not ideal, it was still a good opportunity to prepare for the final.

“I think I would’ve preferred to have that break against them rather than already being matched and knowing what each other have,” Williams said. “But you’ve got to work with what you’ve got.”

The Bushpies will head into the grand final with momentum having won their last three games, including a two point victory over this week’s opponents.

The Bushpies came together at the start of the competition, and are a combination of Yass Magpies and Tuggeranong Bushrangers players.

Bushpies halfback Eilish Winbank was the driving force behind getting the team together, and is happy with how they have combined.

“We were all pretty disheartened when both of our teams didn’t enter the competition originally, so we just pulled together and get to play some footy which is good,” Winbank said.

Winbank: It's really special for us

“I was a bit iffy about it at the start, I wasn’t sure how it would go because we versed each other in the grand final last year so we were pretty much rivals. But we are all good friends now.”

With both teams boasting many dangerous players across the park, the stage is set for a thrilling grand final.
