Michael Asomua from Griffith was officially rewarded with the first Don Furner Senior NSW Country Scholarship Program with the Canberra Raiders Foundation.

Michael who hails from Griffith, plays as an outside back in the Canberra Raiders' SG Ball side attends Erindale College in the ACT. 

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner was delighted to award Michael the scholarship.

"We've said for a while that we're a country club so we want to recruit from the country, this gives Michael an opportunity to have a crack at the NRL and we're delighted."

Canberra Raiders Foundation Manager Paul Walshe said it was a big moment for the Raiders foundation.

"This is a big moment for the Raiders Foundation. We look forward to watching Michael's career moving forward. We want to be able to raise more money moving forward in 2021 so that we can have two or three scholarships in 2022."
