The Canberra Raiders have continued the re-signing of their upcoming talent, with both Harley Smith-Shields and Trey Mooney re-signing with the club.
The pair both signed off on new deals this week while in the team hub on the Gold Coast, highlighting the Raiders commitment to building their future.
Smith-Shields has had the opportunity to play at NRL level for the past few weeks and has shown he is a player with a strong future. His new contract is for a further two seasons, which see him remain a Raider until the end of the 2023 season.
Trey Mooney was an instrumental part of the Raiders SG Ball side this season which took out the premiership at under 18s level and has shown his ability in the NSW Cup earlier this season. His contract is for three seasons, which sees him remain at the club until the end of 2024.
A local junior, Smith-Shields said re-signing for his home-town club was what he wanted to do and was looking forward to continuing his development.
“I’m Grateful for my opportunity to re-sign with the Raiders for another two years, Canberra is home for me and always will be,” Smith-Shields said. “I made my debut last year and I’ve had the chance to be part of the side for the past few weeks which has been a great experience.”
Trey Mooney said re-signing with the Raiders was an easy decision and said he’s be working hard to take the next step in his career.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in Canberra since I arrived and it’s been a great opportunity to be a part of the NRL squad this year,” Mooney said. “To have three more years locked in is something I’m really happy with and its now time for me to make my dreams a reality.”
