Raiders Jersey Flegg side go down to Parramatta

The Raiders Jersey Flegg side have gone down to the Parramatta Eels 40 - 0 at GIO Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Parramatta were too strong across the 70 minutes, running in seven tries while holding the Raiders to zero. 

Defence dominated the early exchanges of the match, with both sides defending their line strongly. 

The Eels opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Matthew Komolafe flew down the wing to score. The Eels were unable to convert through Ethan Sanders, taking a 4-0 lead. 

The Eels were quick to make it back-to-back tries four minutes later when hooker Cruz Niutili-Schmidt scored. Sanders extended their lead with his first conversion, giving them a 10-0 lead after 27 minutes. 

Eels’ lock Peter Taateo was next to score two minutes later after a mid-field break from Niutili-Schmidt. Sanders' conversion was again successful to give the Eels a 16-0 lead after 30 minutes. 

The Eels maintained their 16-0 lead heading into the half-time break. 

Both teams had some early chances to score in the second half, but it was Eels second rower Jayden Skinner who went over the first try of the second half in the 42nd minute. Sanders added the two points to give the Eels a 22-0 lead. 

Parramatta second rower Ryan Jones scored the next try off the back of some strong runs up the middle of the field. Sanders kicked the conversion to give the visitors a 28-0 lead after 54 minutes. 

The Eels scored again just five minutes later, with Sanders bursting through the line and planting the ball over the try-line. Sanders converted his own try to put the Eels ahead 34-0. 

Sanders got his second try of the afternoon in the 65th minute, off the back of a great break by fullback Dantoray Lui. Lui successfully kicked the conversion, extending his side’s lead to 40-0. 

The Raiders take on the Sharks at GIO Stadium next Sunday.
