Round 12 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup was one of the most thrilling rounds so far this season, with all four games decided by six points or less.
Gungahlin Bulls 18 d Yass Magpies 16
The Gungahlin Bulls registered a hard-fought two point win over the Yass Magpies in the tightest contest of the weekend at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The victory is not only important for Gungahlin to get their season back on track, but it gives them a one-win lead over the Magpies who currently sit last on the ladder.
Yass winger Jone Yavaca crossed for a hatrick but it wasn't enough for the out-of-towners who went down by a missed conversion.
His opposite number, Deakin Bright, stole the show with a hatrick of his own to star in Gungahlin's biggest win of the season.
The Bulls trailed for the majority of the game, until they hit back in the final ten minutes through that man, Deakin Bright, to level the scores.
Isaac Walker nailed the conversion from near the touchline to take the lead and collect the important two points on the competition ladder.
Gungahlin will now travel to take on the Queanbeyan Blues at Seiffert Oval next Saturday where Yass will return to Walker Park to take on Goulburn.
Belconnen United Sharks 22 d Tuggeranong Bushrangers 16
The Belconnen United Sharks have held off a late surge from Tuggeranong to keep their season alive with an important four point victory over the top four side.
The Bushies have fallen to their third-straight loss of the season, putting plenty of pressure on themselves to not fall further outside the top four.
Sharks captain Matthew Woolnough scored an incredible individual try off an attacking scrum in the final ten minutes to seal the deal for the home side.
Despite a late try to Bushrangers five-eighth Darby Medlyn, the Sharks managed to hang on to collect an important two competition points and edge closer to the top four.
The Sharks will host back-to-back home games when they take on their cross-town rivals West Belconnen this Saturday.
The Bushrangers will look to snap their losing streak when they host the Woden Valley Rams in a south-side rivalry this weekend.
Woden Valley Rams 34 d Queanbeyan Kangaroos 30
The Woden Valley Rams have stolen a win at the death over the Queanbeyan Kangaroos in a see-sawing contest at Phillip Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The forward pack battle was on full display, with both packs trading heavy blows early to set-up points out-wide for their respective sides.
Queanbeyan halfback Sam Williams was incredible in a losing effort, having a hand in almost every Kangaroos try in only his third game for the club.
The Roos had the game won, when Dan Reid caught the markers off-guard, broke the line and linked up with his fullback Jackson Deacon to level the scores 28-all.
Lock-forward James Horvat converted from the sideline to give the visitors a two point lead with only four minutes remaining.
The Rams had one final set to try and score, where five-eighth Sean Maloney produced some magic through an offload to Thomas Scrivener to break the line.
The Rams looked out of options until an unfortunate touch from a Queanbeyan player signalled six again for the home side.
Woden front-rower Brad Prior went into dummy-half and simply tipped on to Michael Geiger who split the line of defence to score under the sticks and win the match.
Woden will take plenty of confidence into this weekend's big game against the Bushrangers while the Roos will have the bye round to work out their mistakes heading into the final six weeks of the season.
West Belconnen Warriors 16 d Goulburn City Bulldogs 10
The Warriors have got the job done in Goulburn, coming away with a six point victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors continue their consistency throughout their 2022 season, only conceding the one loss all year.
The Bulldogs have had quite the opposite, as they continue their up and down struggles throughout the middle part of the year.
In what was a back and forth affair, Goulburn got an important try to close the gap to six points in the second half through their five-eighth Chris Hart.
But it wasn't enough, as the Warriors controlled the final 20 minutes of possession to come away with the important two points.
The Warriors now return to the top of the ladder as we enter the final six weeks of the competition.
The Goulburn City Bulldogs will travel to Yass to take on the bottom of the table Magpies next Saturday.
