NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 21 Preview

The NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg competitions are back again this weekend, with the Canberra Raiders taking on the South Sydney Rabbitohs across both grades at GIO Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a tough few rounds for the NSW Cup side, with the team looking to find form this weekend when they face the Rabbitohs at 12:40pm on Saturday afternoon at GIO Stadium.

Three tight losses have seen the side drop down to sixth on the competition ladder with 23 points, still just one win outside the top four.

The next few weeks will be crucial for the side to guarantee a finals berth, with the Raiders opponent for this weekend hot on their heels heading into the final four rounds of the regular season.

The Rabbitohs currently sit just one point behind the Green Machine on the competition ladder, with a victory vital in either side's quest towards the finals.

Despite the loss last weekend there were a couple of shining lights for the Raiders, including an impressive performance from front rower Peter Hola.

The 23-year-old was firing down the middle, scoring a try whilst running for a team high 130 metres.

Hola and the NSW Cup team will be boosted by the return of two NRL Stars, with Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad named at fullback for the side, while Corey Horsburgh will line up at lock.

The addition of the highly experienced pair cannot be understated, especially for a side who has been decimated by injuries over the past few rounds.

Loghan Lewis, Jed Stuart and Josh Allen will all move back to the bench for the Raiders, with the trio looking to make an immediate impact off the interchange when required.

The last time that the two sides played was a joyful occasion for the Raiders, with the Green Machine recording a comprehensive 41-10 away win in Round 11.

With both sides having lost their most recent match, expect a high intensity fixture this weekend as the Raiders look to do the regular season sweep over South Sydney.

Fresh off an important victory against the Dragons last weekend, the Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg side will be looking to continue their momentum when they face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

After an inconsistent few rounds, the Raiders were able to find their form against a St George Illawarra Dragons side sitting near the top of the table.

Despite the pleasing performance, the squad's focus now turns to the Rabbitohs, as they look to climb the ladder with just four rounds of the regular season to go.

The team currently sit in seventh place with 22 points; however, the close nature of the competition sees them placed just one win outside of the top three with a game in hand.

The Green Machine have named a very similar line-up to last weekend, with only a few small changes.

Niu Mariota has been moved to the bench, with Tane Kiriona named to replace him in the starting forward pack. Jayden Clarkson will also move into the matchday 17, named on the bench.

Despite the Rabbitohs currently sitting in last place, it will not be an easy match for the Raiders against a side with nothing to lose.

This was proven when the pair faced off in round 11, when the Raiders were able to hold onto an important 24-20 victory despite a late South Sydney fightback.

No match is easy in the Jersey Flegg competition, with the Green Machine needing to be at their best this weekend if they want to secure the two points.
