Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 14 Wrap

The final round of the 2022 Katrina Fanning Shield is in the books with the Bushrangers picking up a much needed win to secure the final spot in the top five.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 16 d Harden Worhawks 8

The Bushrangers have now secured a place in the top five finals series of the Katrina Fanning Shield, after picking up a win over the Worhawks.

It was a must-win game for the Bushrangers who were able to tie with South Coast United on ten competition points after their defeat to the Rams, claiming fifth spot due to their superior for and against.

The Bushrangers will now enjoy a week off before they take on the Queanbeyan Blues in next weekend's elimination final.

Centre Caitiln Fazey-Robinson starred for the winning side, picking up two tries as the Bushrangers ran away with the victory.

Unfortunately this past weekend marked the end to a disappointing regular season for the Worhawks, who finished in eighth with just one win so far in 2022.

The Worhawks will now host the Boomanulla Raiders in an elimination final this weekend, which is the only team they have beaten in 2022.

UC Stars 36 d Boomanulla Raiders 0

The UC Stars claimed their first win on the weekend since round five, defeating the Boomanulla Raiders who have unfortunately finished last in 2022.

The Stars have now finished the season in seventh which will give them a second chance in the bottom four finals series, if they are to lose to United on Saturday.

It was one-way traffic for the Stars at Boomanulla Oval, with five-eighth Nicky Davies securing a hatrick by scoring the first three tries of the match.

While it was the Stars best attacking display of the season, they will be just as proud of their defence, holding the Raiders to zero after conceding over 50 points in three of their last four matches.

Meanwhile, it has been a season to forget for the Raiders who are yet to secure a win in 2022, but that will all be forgotten as they could still go on a run in the bottom four finals series.

The Raiders and Stars finals campaigns kick off this weekend with the Stars taking on South Coast United and the Raiders travelling to play the Worhawks in Harden.

Woden Valley Rams 26 d South Coast United 0

The Rams have secured a second place finish on the competition ladder and ended South Coast United’s hopes of finishing in the top five.

It was one-way traffic for the Rams at Mackay Park who needed a win on Saturday to claim a home qualifying final with the Bulldogs right on their heels.

It was the Rams fourth win in their past five matches which also included a big win over United.

Rams five-eighth Eloise Ryan scored two tries for the Rams as they proceeded to secure a big win on the road.

Unfortunately for United, that loss and the Bushrangers win knocked them out of the top five after sitting in fifth position for most of the season, a great effort for the clubs first year in the competition.

Now, United will be focused on ending the season by winning the bottom four finals competition as they go in as the favourite in sixth place.

United will host the Stars at Mick Sherd Oval this Saturday, while the Rams will enjoy a week off before hosting the Bulldogs in the qualifying final.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 22 d Queanbeyan Blues 20

The Bulldogs have secured third place and therefore a second chance in the top five finals series, claiming a comeback win at GIO Stadium in the curtain raiser to the Raiders vs Dragons match on Sunday afternoon.

It was a must-win for both sides as the winner would finish the season in third place and play the Rams in a qualifying final, rather than an elimination final.

Elly Hazelton was awarded player of the match after leading the Bulldogs comeback by scoring two tries in the final five minutes, including the match winner.

It was a great end to the season for the Bulldogs who finished the regular season on a three game win streak and will go into their qualifying final very confident after claiming two wins over the Rams in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Blues will be disappointed they could not claim that second placed position, especially after leading for most of the match on Sunday.

The Blues will now enjoy a week off before they host the Bushrangers in an elimination final, meaning that it's do or die for the Blues from now on.
