Raiders confirm 2023 NRL Football Staff

The Canberra Raiders have confirmed their 2023 Football staffing for the approaching pre-season, with Coach Ricky Stuart’s team ready to hit the ground running for the commencement of pre-season in early November.

This week’s announcement of the experienced Michael Maguire as Senior NRL consultant, sees the 2023 coaching staff locked in ahead of the new season.

Maguire’s full-time role will see him working with Mick Crawley and Head Coach Ricky Stuart to prepare the NRL team in 2023.

Justin Giteau has been appointed NSW Cup Coach for the 2023 season after coaching the clubs Jersey Flegg side in 2022 and will assist the NRL coaching staff where required during the season as part of his role.

The Raiders have also introduced a new position in 2023 of Elite Pathways Coach, with Chris Hutchison joining the club to help with the coaching and development of the clubs’ younger players who make their way through the Raiders pathway system. Hutchison has previously worked as Coaching Director for the Mounties Group.

Completing the NRL Coaching staff will be Raider #243 Josh Miller, who returns to the Raiders as the club’s Contact Coach in a part-time capacity. Miller will work with the squad on defensive technique over the course of the pre-season and in-season.

The Raiders have also elevated Joel Carbone to become the club’s new Recruitment Manager, with Dave Warwick (Elite) and Dean Souter (Pathways) working with Carbone to identify and recruit players to the club.

The club has finalised the structure of the club’s high-performance team for 2023, with Josh Strahorn joining the Raiders as High-Performance Manager. Strahorn is an experienced performance Coach who joins the Raiders after working with the ACT Brumbies.

Strahorn will be supported by Leigh Woodbridge who returns to the Raiders as rehabilitation Coach, with Travis Ronaldson (Strength & Power Coach) and Tom Christian (Sports Science) making up the High-Performance team.

Raiders Head Coach Ricky Stuart said the addition of some new staff members in 2023 will bring some fresh ideas to the way in which the Raiders prepare for the upcoming season, and he looked forward to working with the new look team.

“We want the Raiders to be a destination for football staff that want to get the most out of their career and have people aspire to work within our walls.”

“We’re really excited about the football staff we’ve been able to recruit during the off-season, with Michael Maguire joining us to work with myself and the experienced Mick Crawley, while we’ve also been able to reward some hard-working staff like Justin Giteau and Joel Carbone with some exciting opportunities inside the club.

“I’m also really excited about Josh Miller joining us. I don’t know if I have witnessed a more passionate player about this Club than Josh. We have invited him into Team meetings and dinners before and he displays a very authentic passion and commitment to the Jersey and the players.”

“We’re also looking forward to having the experienced Josh Strahorn heading up the high-performance team and having a fresh approach to our pre-season.”
