The Toyota Forklifts Raiders have been working hard both on and off the field during pre-season, with some players taking part in the CBR NightCrew program late last year.
The program, in partnership with St John Ambulance ACT, is implemented into the pre-season for all of the Under 21’s players at the club.
This year marked a return to the program for the Raiders, who participated in 2019 before COVID-19 halted involvement.
The CBR NightCrew program helps the Canberra community by providing a safe space for young people in distress in Civic during the night on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and is predominately provided for the safety of youth.
The program is a collaborative initiative between local government and industry to help young people and is managed by St John Ambulance ACT and staffed by training volunteers.
Raiders players had an induction at Raiders HQ by NightCrew volunteers before splitting into groups, taking part in the program across five weeks between November and December last year.
Raiders Wellbeing, Education and Career Manager Sam Wentworth said the program was a great way for the players to help in the community.
“The players enjoyed being in the community during the program, getting a deeper understanding of the meaning of volunteer work and helping the community of Canberra,” Wentworth said.
“The program helps educate the players on the importance of helping the Canberra community and additionally highlights the dangers and risks associated with night life in cities.”
