Junior Reps Preview Round Three

All three junior representative teams are on the road again this weekend, travelling to 4 Pines Park to take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

SG Ball Cup

The Raiders SG Ball Cup team travel back up to Sydney this weekend to take on the Sea Eagles as they look to keep their winning streak alive.

It has been a great start to the season for the Raiders, who are currently on top of the ladder after wins over the Storm and Roosters in their opening two rounds.

The side has come together really well, with many players making the move up from last year's Harold Matthews Cup team.

Coach Peter Marrapodi says it's handy having a core group that have played together before and has been impressed with how they have stepped up.

“The Harold Matts guys have been excellent. I think on the weekend we had 11 bottom age players out of the 17 so it’s where the majority of our players have come from," Marrapodi said.

"They are doing a great job considering how young our squad is. We’ve got a lot of players that were training up with the 21’s and first grade in the off-season so it's taken a little while for that adjustment to happen but the squad is coming together really well and you can see some close bonds and friendships, so I expect that to be a real positive for us moving forward.”

It has been a tough couple of weeks in terms of travel for the Raiders, with this weekend's match their third straight away game.

With a block of four consecutive home games to follow after this weekend, Marrapodi says that the side can take a lot of confidence from winning away.

"It’s something that in Canberra there is no way around, you just have to get used to it. If we are going to win the comp, all the semis are in Sydney, the grand final is in Sydney, so really it’s not an excuse, you just get used to it and go with it," Marrapodi said.

"We are looking forward to coming home but we’ve still got the job this weekend to do first.”

Defence has been the big focus for the Raiders this week, with Marrapodi cautious of a dangerous Manly outfit.

"They are a really good attacking team and they throw a lot at you in attack so we’ve got to be working hard defensively," Marrapodi said.

"It’s the area that we fell down last week so we’ve worked really hard at that this week, trying to defend as a unit and defend together, so hopefully we see the results of that this weekend."

Kick off for the match is at 2pm on Saturday 18th February.

Harold Matthews Cup

The Raiders Harold Matthews Cup side take on the Sea Eagles this weekend as they look to make it three wins from three to start the season.

The Raiders are coming off the back of a 34-12 victory over the Roosters, in which a strong second half helped secure the win.

Coach Rourke O'Sullivan has decided to keep the same 1-17 that got the job done last week for this weekend's clash.

The Sea Eagles were defeated by the Western Suburbs Magpies 38-6 in round one and had the bye last week so will be looking to bounce back this weekend.

Kick off for the game is at 12:30pm on Saturday 18th February at 4 Pines Park in Sydney.

Tarsha Gale Cup

The Raiders Tarsha Gale Cup side will be looking to bounce back this weekend when they take on the Sea Eagles in Sydney.

The Raiders side went down 38-6 to the Indigenous Academy Roosters in their opening match of the season last weekend. Lock Aaliyah Lomas scored the sole try for the Raiders in the match.

Coach Josh Hardy has made just the one change to the side ahead of the clash against Manly, with Hunter Ings replacing Maddison Morris on the bench.

The Sea Eagles have recorded one win and one loss to start their season, with a 16-12 victory over the Tigers in round one and a narrow eight point loss to the Eels last weekend.

This weekend's match between the Raiders and Sea Eagles starts at 11am on Saturday 18th February at 4 Pines Park.
