Junior Reps Preview: Round Five

All three junior representative sides will be playing at Raiders Belconnen again this weekend as the SG Ball and Harold Matts sides aim to maintain their dominance across both competitions, while the Tarsha Gale side seek their third win in a row.

All three games will be livestreamed on NSWRL TV via the NSWRL Facebook page.

Tarsha Gale Cup

The Tarsha Gale Cup side will be looking to make it three from three wins ahead of their clash against the Paramatta Eels this Saturday.

The Raiders recorded their second win for the season in a comfortable eight try victory over the West Tigers, with Lara Cosgrove scoring a hattrick.

Despite the 44-4 win over the Tigers, coach Josh Hardy was most impressed with his sides defence.

“The most pleasing thing was that we kept them to four. Defence has been an area we have spent a lot of time on. We conceded one try just before half time… and we kept a clean slate in the second half which was very pleasing” Hardy said.

Hardy says that the squad of 26 are all fighting for their spot in the team, which has created a healthy and competitive environment within the team, resulting in some great individual performances.

“Young Hunter Ings finally got the opportunity after being 18 (reserve) for the first two weeks, she got called into the squad late and took the opportunity with two hands” Hardy said.

Hardy also praised Lara Cosgrove after scoring a hattrick following a preseason setback.

“Lara’s had a few setbacks through the preseason with a knee injury, but she’s coming in leaps and bounds the last fortnight and we are hoping that it continues”.

Paramatta have a strong side and are just one point behind the Raiders, but Hardy believes if the Raiders continue to do the little things right, they will secure the win on Saturday.

“Parramatta are very talented and have a lot of strike power across the board, so we are expecting a tough and physical encounter, but if we do our little nitty gritty things right, I think we will come away with a good result against them.”

Kick off is at 11am Saturday 4th March at Raiders Belconnen.
