The Belconnen United Sharks prepare for a huge 2023 season in the Canberra Raiders Cup following a strong finish to both the men's First Grade and Ladies League Tag seasons last year.

The Sharks flew home in the first-grade competition to just miss out on a finals position following a mid-season coaching change which gave the Belconnen side plenty of momentum coming into the back-end of the year.

The fresh faces of captain-coach Zac Patch, alongside assistant coach's Jake Hawkins and Shaun Fensom have brought stability and experience to the club which makes the Sharks all that more dangerous for 2023.

Club captain Matt Woolnough spoke with media about their strong finish to 2022 and how they can carry that momentum into the new season.

"We're looking to just build on the momentum we gathered from last year and looking to start real strong," Woolnough said.

"That's our number one goal is to get into that top four."

Belconnen League Tag captain Rachel Moran touched on the Sharks top-four finish last season and their desire to go one further in 2023.

"We were happy with how we finished last year but we definitely have the goal to go better," Moran said.

"We definitely want to get better in our attack, sometimes that led us down a bit last year. We want to just improve there and work together as a team."

The Belconnen United Sharks will take on the Gungahlin Bulls in round one of the Canberra Raiders Cup at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval.
