The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup team have held on to claim a 20-18 win over the Dragons at GIO Stadium Canberra on Sunday.
With Captain Trey Mooney scoring a double for the Raiders and Xavier Savage impressing in his return to footy, the Raiders held on to beat the Dragons in a hard-fought match.
The Raiders came out firing in the first half scoring the first try of the game through returning Xavier Savage playing on the wing in the first six minutes.
In the wet slippery conditions of the first half, the Raiders were able to break the Dragon’s defensive line again in the 14th minute through Brad Morkos on the wing.
The Raiders defensive efforts held the Dragons out all till the 39th minute with half-back Treigh Stewart making a dash for the try line.
The scores remained at 10-6 at the halftime bell.
The Trey Mooney special came out in the second half with a try in the 51st minute powering through the line to put the four points on the board for the Raiders.
He then came firing again just six minutes later to put another four points on the scoreboard making the scores 20-6 after a conversion from Brad Schneider.
The Dragons answered to the Raiders tries with a try to Billy Burns in the 63rd minute following a conversion from half-back Jayden Sullivan leaving the score-line with an eight-point difference to the Raiders.
After a handful of errors from both teams, the Dragons were able to break through in the 73rd minute with Treigh Stewart scoring his second of the day leaving just a two-point difference.
Raiders were able to shut down the Dragons attacking efforts leaving the score 20-18 to the Raiders for their fourth win of the season.
The Raiders will have the week off with a bye before coming back to play the Rabbitohs in round nine.
