Raiders slay the Dragons as game goes down to the wire

The Toyota Forklift Raiders have defeated the Dragons in wet conditions at GIO Stadium Canberra, with a run-away try from Hudson Young sealing the 20-14 win.

The first half wet conditions proved to be hard for both teams with end-to-end footy powering the first 40 minutes.

With plenty of errors from each team, the half was tough for the two teams to be able to see a way out of their own end with the defence dominating the game.

Despite the Raiders having fifty-seven percent possession the Dragons were the ones that put the first points on the board with winger Tautau Moga scoring on the wing in the 38th minute of the game.

After the missed conversion from the Dragons, Zac Lomax left the score 4-0 at half-time.

The Raiders came out with a point to prove with Sebastian Kris putting first points on the board for the Raiders in the 45th minute of the game.

Along with the conversion from skipper Jarrod Croker that took Raiders in front for the first time of the game making the score 6-4.

A penalty kick from Croker for the Raiders in the 47th minute after a late shot from Dragons Jack Bird brought the score to 8-4.

The Dragons Mathew Feagai capitalised for the Raiders after the sin bin of Nick Cotric for a professional foul in the 53rd minute, making scores even at 8-8.

Zac Lomax kicked a penalty goal for the Dragons in the 59th minute of the game after a high tackle from Hudson Young that brought the Dragons back in the lead.

But the Raiders were quick to answer back with a sensational try from Matthew Timoko in the 62nd minute and a conversion from Jarrod Croker putting the Raiders back in front 14-10.

Hudson Young had all the answers for the Raiders with a one-on-one strip and a 70-meter run-away try to bring the Raiders out to an eight-point difference in the final eight minutes of the game.

But the game did not end there, with Dragons Tautau Moga going in for his second try in the 77th minute after an intercept.

A late sin bin for Hudson Young in the final seconds of the game left the Raiders defending their line for one last time but the Raiders were able to hold the Dragons out leaving the final score 20-14.

The Raiders now have a bye and will face the Dolphins in round nine.
