Junior Reps Wrap Finals week two

The Canberra Raiders SG Ball side went down to the Eels in their semi final clash on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval, ending their dominant 2023 season.

Although the Raiders didn’t secure the win over Paramatta, they can hold their heads high after a successful campaign, taking out the minor premiership.

SG Ball

The Canberra Raiders were defeated 14-6 by the Parramatta Eels, ending their finals run on Saturday afternoon.

It was clear that the Eels wanted to prove themselves against the top of the table Raiders side early on in this must win battle.

Both forward packs set the tone early with strong hit ups as they tried to march down the field. This high intensity battle saw the Eels score first with a try in the 10th minute from hooker Matthew Arthur, who squeezed through the Raiders defence to burrow over the line to make it 4-0.

Parramatta extended their half-time lead out to 14-nil after two quick tries to outside-backs Devonte Vaivela and Te Hurinui Twidle, which made it extremely difficult for the Raiders to turn around.

Although, it was a much better second half for the Raiders, with their tightened defence putting a stop to the Eels completely as they fought to keep their finals hopes alive.

Canberra began to find their feet with their first try coming in the 51st minute thanks to a dominant run by prop Jake Clydsdale, where he steamed through four Parramatta defenders, scoring under the posts. Samuel Gash successfully converted to make it 14-6 inside the final 20 minutes.

Unfortunately for the Raiders they found their momentum too late and were defeated 14-6 by the Eels despite a gallant second half effort.
