The Raiders have received a boost heading into Saturday’s match against the Eels at GIO Stadium, with Emre Guler (Raider #353) signing a new two-year deal with the club which will see him remain a Raider until the end of 2025.
Guler, who made his debut with the Raiders in 2018, has played 66 matches for the club and has started the 2023 season in career best form.
He said the decision in the end for him was an easy one and he looked forward to continuing his career in green.
“I’m really excited and it wasn’t a hard choice for me. I spoke to Sticky early on in the year and we discussed me staying here and that’s been the plan and I feel like I’ve been playing good footy and it’s worked out,” Guler said. “I’ve been here now for a few years and Canberra’s home for me, so it made my decision a lot easier and there’s a bunch of lads that I’ve played with for that entire time and it’s good to come through with them and keep working with them.”
Guler said he’s already learnt so much from experienced teammates in Josh Papalii and Joe Tapine, but he was also excited about the players in the forward pack who have developed alongside him.
“I’ve learnt a lot of Papa and Taps and I’ve been watching them and working with them for years now and they’re great role models for the community and great players,” he said. “But we also have a great bunch of young players coming through like Big Red (Corey Horsburgh) and Hudson Young and hopefully we can keep building those combos and grow together.
Guler has been named to come off the bench in Saturday night's match against the Eels and has featured in all nine Raiders matches in 2023.
