Raiders Release Semi Valemei

The Canberra Raiders have confirmed the release of outside back Semi Valemei (Raider #366) from the remainder of his playing contract, to take up an opportunity with another NRL club.

Valemei was on contract with the Raiders for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but has been granted an early release.

Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart said it was hard to see Valemei leave the club and wished him all the best for the future.

“It was a really tough moment yesterday morning when Semi spoke to the group and it was emotional for him and the group,” Stuart said. “I want Semi to be an NRL player and at the moment the best opportunity for him to play NRL will be at another club.

“I’d have Semi here for the rest of his career if I could, but he needs to play NRL and he’s going to get a better chance at that somewhere else. They’re getting a wonderful young man and I hope he’s very successful as he deserves it.”
