Shark attack in Goulburn after gutsy four-point win

The Belconnen United Sharks have defeated the Goulburn City Bulldogs in a 28-24 win, inspired by Matt Woolnough and Zac Patch in a gutsy performance.

A grubber and chase from Woolnough in the third minute of the game put the Sharks on the board first for the afternoon.

But the Bulldogs were quick to respond with a try to Tyler Cornish in the eighth minute, while the Shark’s defense was in a scramble which levelled the scores 6-all.

The Cornish brothers produced some magic for Goulburn only 10 minutes later, connecting for a wonderful team try which Jyi Little finished in the corner.

The Sharks fought back in the 28th minute after a great break from Woolnough and a swift pass out to George Wood, who struck a try on the edge.

A great line break from Darcy Leadbitter in the 33rd minute put another four points on the board for the Sharks which put the score 16-10 to the Sharks.

But the Bulldogs were not done there after a dropped ball from the Sharks just meters out from the line the Bulldogs pounced and Jyi Little went in for his second try for the afternoon.

The try and a successful conversion from the Bulldogs levelled the scores 16-16 at halftime.

The Sharks made sure they got the first points on the board in the second half with a great try from Sharks forward Robert Aratangi in the 44th minute.

A Tyler Cornish intercept led to an incredible 80 metre try, finished off by Dominic Stephens to bridge the gap to two-points with just over 20 minutes remaining.

The Sharks bounced back after a beautiful kick from Woolnough on the fifth tackle that sat up nice for a try for David Williams in the 58th minute.

Tensions were boiling over from both teams not long before a sensational Bulldogs try in the 68th minute for Bulldogs winger Dominic Stephens.

The Sharks had a lot thrown at them in the final minutes but were able to hold the Bulldogs out with the final score 28-24 to the Sharks.
