NRL Match Preview: Raiders v Sea Eagles

This Sunday the Toyota Forklift Raiders will take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at GIO Stadium Canberra, with the side aiming for their sixth straight win.

This weekend will be a special display as we head into the NRL Indigenous round, with many players on the Raiders' side representing their indigenous culture.

The Raiders have won their last five games and will be looking to continue their winning streak heading into this Sunday’s game.

The Raiders beat the Eels last Saturday night in a 26-18 win in the capital and currently sit in seventh place, but are just two points behind first place.

The team has had a couple of changes to their side after Zac Woolford went down in Saturday’s game with a grade one concussion, which made him unavailable for this weekend’s game with the new 11-day stand-down protocol.

Danny Levi will come into the side to replace Woolford with his first game back since fracturing his jaw in round three against the Sharks.

Meanwhile, Manly will be looking to bounce back after a 20-14 loss against the Sharks.

The Manly side is currently sitting in 12th place on the ladder on 11 points after losing their last three games.

The Sea Eagles have had a few changes with Jake Trbojevic and Josh Schuster both coming back into the side after being out injured.

Last Time They Met

The last time the two teams met the Raiders pumped Manly in a 48-6 win in round 24 of last season.

Key Matchups

Corey Horsburgh v Jake Trbojevic

This matchup will be one that will keep your eyes peeled come Sunday as these two go head to head.

Big Red has been a standout for the Raiders so far and will be looking to make an impression in this game with Origin nearing closer as he hopes to be selected for the Queensland side.

After a fiery game and gutsy performance from him last Saturday, he will be sure to back that up and stick it to Trbojevic on Sunday.

Horsburgh is averaging 116 running metres per game and 423 post-contact running metres and will be looking to perform to a high standard again against one of the most talked-about forwards.

Meanwhile Jake Trbokevic will be looking to help his team get over the line after being out for the past couple of weeks.

Trbojevic is hard to tackle when he has the ball in his hands and is even harder to get through when coming at you for a tackle.

Trbojevic has had a great season despite having only played nine games so far, with a total of 257 post-contact meters and a 95.8% tackle efficiency.

Jamal Fogarty v Daly Cherry-Evans

The epic battle of the halves is a hard one not to talk about.

Fogarty has been a staple in the Raiders' winning ways this season with a great performance on the weekend against the Eels.

His season so far at the Raiders has been one to remember with six try assists and 358 average kicking meters.

He will be coming up against Manly’s go-to man in Daly Cherry Evans.

Cherry Evans has had a great season with 92 average running meters and five tries for the season so far.

Cherry Evans will be looking to show off his talents as Origin is right around the corner making a good impression on the younger players that look up to him in both his team and teammates in the Queensland side.

Jordan Rapana v Reuben Garrick

The battle of the high-flying try-scoring wingers.

Jordan Rapana has been in form this season for the Raiders and is nearing his 100th  NRL try of his career. He is currently sitting on 99 tries so he will be looking to pull some magic out and score his 100th try in front of a home crowd this weekend.

Having scored five tries already this season as well as four line-breaks and a try assist next to his name, he is an unstoppable force.

He will be coming up against Reuben Garrick who is not far behind Rapana on tries scored this season with four scored so far and 25 tackle breaks to his name as well.

Garrick has been a standout man for the Manly side staying consistent the whole season despite the side going down a few times.

This will be a matchup you won’t miss with both players sure to be high-flying at most points during this game.

Head to Head

The Raiders have won 15 games out of 36 against the Manly side.
