Goulburn bounce back in a huge performance at Seiffert Oval

The Goulburn City Bulldogs have defeated the Queanbeyan Blues 46-26 in a high-scoring game, with the Cornish brothers having a field day on the left-edge, crossing for three tries between them.

Goulburn asserted themselves early after several errors from Queanbeyan, with a try to Tyler Cornish just four minutes into the contest.

But the Blues were quick to respond with returning star Matt Parsons crossing over just four minutes later.

The Blues were then left defending their end with one player down in the 14th minute as Wayne Crisp was sent to the sin-bin for a late hit.

The Bulldogs were quick to pounce against twelve men, with Mitch Cornish floating a beautiful cut-out for centre Isaac Walker to score. Walker was unsuccessful with the boot, leaving the scores 8-4 after 15 minutes.

Mitchell Cornish bagged one of his own, palming off the rushing defence to extend their lead to 14-4.

Despite Crisp coming back on the field, Goulburn were able to break the defensive line again with a try in the 27th minute to Junior Vatikani on the wing which brought the score to 18-4.

But Vatikani wasn't finished, scoring his second try of the afternoon in the 34th minute off the back of consecutive penalties.

Goulburn centre Dillon Rota got a piece of the action, crossing for his first as the Bulldogs' first-half clinic came to a close, heading into the sheds with a commanding 26-4 lead.

After back-and-forth errors from both sides, the Bulldogs were the ones to put the first points on the board in the second half with Josh Latham scoring, after a gifted try from the Queanbeyan fullback.

The Blues looked to get back into the contest with a try to John Papalii in the 51st minute after an error from Goulburn off the kick-off left the scores 30-10/

Dillion Rota saw some space just two minutes later to answer back to the Blues, going in for his second of the afternoon.

Although Queanbeyan hit straight back, keeping the ball alive on the left edge for winger Dakai Lilo Bolatagici, closing in on a 36-16 deficit.

Tyler Cornish continued his dominance, being the next one over the line for the Goulburn side in the 65th minute, making it his second try for the game.

Although a Cornish error on a kick-return led to Parsons' second, who powered over line in the 70th minute.

But the Blues were not finished yet with centre George Morseu going over the line in the 75th minute.

But Goulburn had the last laugh, combining on the right-edge off a dropout for interchange forward Kalib Simon to crash over as the clock ticked down.
