Rams cap off Derby Round with a two-point thriller at Greenway

The Woden Valley Rams have held on to defeat Tuggeranong in an intense 24-22 victory, after a second-half surge from the Bushrangers.

Immaculate control from Mitchel Souter and a 100% conversion rate from Samuel Gash were important features to Woden's win.

After a delayed start, the Rams were the first ones on the board after a sensational pop-up pass from Mitchel Souter put Kaden Williams over in the fifth minute.

After a successful conversion from Samuel Gash, the score stood at 6-0.

The Rams were in again in the 23rd minute with a try to Gideon Afemui after both teams had a handful of errors at each end.

Gash converted the try which extended the score to 12-0 in favour of Woden.

Jesse Eljuga was the next over the line for the Rams with a sensation cut through to the try line in the 31st minute. Gash added the extras to lead 18-nil.

But they weren’t done there, the Rams crossing again ion the stroke of halftime through Daine Spencer, who finished a brilliant line break from Afemui.

The Bushrangers trailed 24 points, full well knowing a huge performance was in-front of them if they were a chance to comeback.

Tuggeranong activated their 18th man for the start of the second half with Wes Alexander replacing Darby Medlyn, who was ruled out with a concussion early in the first half.

The Bushrangers were the first to get over in the second half in the 45th minute with Atini Tuialii going over for Tuggeranong’s first try of the game.

The Rams were starved of the football before Afemui saw half a gap, although ruled a shepherd by the referee, invited Tuggeranong into their end again.

Michael Mitchell capitalised, bursting over the line to close the gap to 24-12.

Just a short four minutes later, Tuggeranong’s Jayden Mclachlan was over the try line after successfully cutting through a hole in Rams' defence line.

Liam Oakley converted, forcing a one try game with a 24-18 lead to Woden.

With all the momentum, the Bushrangers miraculously scored in the right corner through Jack Davison, courtesy of a beautiful cut-out from returning forward Zac Saddler, to make it a two-point game.

Liam Oakley was unable to convert from the far touchline, leaving the scores 24-22.

After an intense final few minutes, the Bushrangers had one roll of the dice in the dying stages.

Tualii skipped down the left touchline, putting Jayden Pollard away who look destined to score.

Rams' winger Sam Gash chased and forced the error, holding on to win an incredibly physical derby over cross-town rivals, Tuggeranong.
