Roos' first half proven too strong for Goulburn

A first-half masterclass performance from the Queanbeyan Kangaroos proved to be the difference as they defeated the Goulburn City Bulldogs 32 - 10 at Seears Workwear Oval on Saturday.

A Jesse Dent double and immaculate game management from Lachlan Ingram at dummy-half played key roles in the Queanbeyan win.

It did not take long for the Kangaroos to start the scoring with prop Aidan Woods crashing over under the black dot in the fourth minute. Sam Williams converted the try to give his side a 6 – 0 lead.

The Kangaroos were quick to strike again with Jesse Dent diving on a Jake Keily grubber two minutes later to extend the lead. Sam Williams was unable to convert from the sideline leaving the score at 10 – 0.

A line break by Harry Quinlan set up Jesse Dent to dive onto a loose ball in-goal in the 17th minute for his second try of the match. This extended the Kangaroos’ lead to 14 – 0.

Queanbeyan kept their momentum going with captain-coach Sam Williams adding to the scoring, using his footwork to score next to the posts in the 21st minute. Williams converted his own try making it 20 – 0.

Forward Sia Soliola crashed over for his first Queanbeyan try in his return from injury in the 25th minute. Sam Williams converted extending the lead to 26 – 0.

Harry Quinlan stepped through the Bulldogs’ line, passing to Sam Williams for his second try of the match in the 33rd minute. Williams was again successful with the boot to set the score at 32 – 0.

The Bulldogs capitalised on a Queanbeyan error early in the second half with a set play that saw Dillon Rota score in the corner. Isaac Walker was unable to convert keeping the score at 32 – 4.

Goulburn continued to chip away at the deficit as Tyler Cornish chased down his on kick in the 65th minute. Isaac Walker converted from in front to reduce the lead to 32 – 10.
