Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 8 Preview

The Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield will head into round eight this weekend, with teams looking to cement their positions on the ladder ahead of the competition split in a fortnight's time.

West Belconnen Warriors v Gungahlin Bulls, 9:20 am, Sunday 2 July at Raiders Belconnen

This will be the match of the round as first and third place go head-to-head.

Both teams are coming off major wins last weekend with the Warriors defeating Harden 34-6 while the Bulls defeated UC 80-4.

These teams have been neck and neck all year with star players on both sides pushing their sides over the line each week.

Bulls' fullback Caitlin Turnbull continues to fly at the top of the try scorer list despite her not playing in last weekend’s match.

While Warriors outside-back Grace Tai continues to improve with another three tries added to her tally after last weekend’s heroics.

This will be one of the games to watch as these two sides will both be looking to climb towards finals.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Goulburn City Bulldogs, 10:30 am, Sunday 2 July at Greenway Oval

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers and Goulburn City Bulldogs currently sit tight on the ladder with the Bushies in sixth and the Bulldogs not far ahead in fourth.

The Goulburn side defeated the Queanbeyan Roos in a 52-nil victory on the weekend, snapping their first win in four games.

Bushrangers are coming off a tight 10-all draw against the Queanbeyan Blues last weekend and will be looking to edge over the Bulldogs.

This will be a great opportunity for either side to make an important push to the top five before the competition split in a fortnight's time.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos v Woden Valley Rams, 11:50 am, Sunday 2 July at Seears Workwear Oval

Both the Roos and the Rams will be looking to improve after both losing last weekend.

Queanbeyan went down in a 52-0 defeat from the Bulldogs while the Rams went down in a 60-2 loss handed to them by Yass Magpies.

Both sides are sitting in the bottom half of the ladder with Rams in eighth and Roos in tenth.

Queanbeyan are still yet to win a game this season but will look to change that come Sunday.

The Rams have won two games this season and will be hoping to provide a good fight on the weekend on the road.

Yass Magpies v Queanbeyan Blues, 1:20 pm, Sunday 2 July at Walker Park

A great contest for these two sides as they go face-to-face this Sunday.

Yass are coming off a huge 60-2 win against Woden Valley Rams last weekend.

While their opponents, the Blues, are coming off a hard-fought 10-all draw against the Bushrangers last weekend.

These teams have both had some impressive performances this season and have been improving with each game.

The Magpies are currently sitting in second position just one point off first place, while the Blues are sitting in fifth place.

This will be a big game for Queanbeyan as they sit in the hotseat in fifth place with hopes of clearing the chasing teams.

The UC Stars v Harden Worhawks fixture has resulted in a forfeit.
