Yass grab huge win in-front of Walker Park faithful

The Yass Magpies have put together a huge second-half performance to comeback and defeat the Queanbeyan Blues 36-20 at Walker Park on Sunday afternoon.

A five-try haul in the second half proved to be the difference as the Magpies grabbed their biggest win of their season.

The Blues were the first to strike after a back and forth opening ten minutes.

Queanbeyan set-up a long right-edge attack where Andre Nico placed a pin-point grubber kick to put Adam Misios over for the first try of the afternoon. Noah Ryan converted from the touchline to lead 6-nil.

Noah Ryan backed up his goalkicking with some brilliance of his own, taking on the line and playing inside to Charlie Woolford to put the lock-forward under the sticks. Ryan converted to extend the lead to 12-nil.

Yass worked their way back into the contest to cross for their first points of the afternoon right on the stroke of halftime.

Halfback Brandon Thompson reloaded on the short side to hold up the defence and put Aublix Tawha over the chalk. Nayavucere converted to close the gap to 12-6 at halftime.

After an intense opening five minutes of the second half, it was the home side who were the first to strike after weighted field possession.

Club veteran Dave Barrie chased through a loose chip kick to dive over for Yass' first of the second half. Nayavucere had no problems with the extras, locking the scores at 12-all.

Brandon Thomspon took the line on again, this time showing and going himself to put Yass in the lead for the first time of the contest. Nayavucere converted to lead 18-12 after 50 minutes.

Blues hooker Jack Anderson was sin binned for decent, leaving them with 12 on the field in the 51st minute.

The Magpies capatilised on this instantly through Andrew Swaffield, who jumped out of dummy half and scored adjacent to the posts. Nayavucere had no problems with the conversion, extending their lead to 24-12.

Yass elected to take a penalty goal after the Blues were pinned for offside. Nayavucere nailed the conversion to open up a 14-point lead.

Blues front rower Ranapiri Baker was sin binned for high contact on Yass captain Shaun Davis in the 58th minute.

Yass made Queanbeyan pay again, this time failing to clean up a kick where Tawha scooped it up and scored under the posts.

Magpies fullback Bayley Maher got a taste of the tryline, finishing off a great piece of play from the boot of Ryan Prins to extend their strong lead to 36-12.

The Blues were able to crash over for two late consolation tries through Christian Moss and George Morseu to round out the full-time score 36-20.
