Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 11 Wrap

Round 11 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup came with plenty of points as the Magpies, Bushies, Warriors and Roos all ran away big winners.

Yass Magpies 36 d Queanbeyan Blues 20

This week’s match of the round proved to be nothing short of entertaining, with the clash between the Magpies and Blues being filled with plenty of points.

Yass piled on five tries in the second half after Jack Anderson and Ranapiri Baker were both sent to the sin bin, seeing the home side secure their second win for the season.

The Blues started off strong, with Adam Misios and Charlie Woolford running in two unanswered tries to give Queanbeyan an early 12-0 lead in the 25th minute.

Yass were able to cross for a late try before half time to hold the scores to 12-6, carrying some momentum into the second half.

Yass' halves partners David Barrie and Brandon Thompson both crossed the line early to give Yass an 18-12 lead in the 49th minute.

After the dismisal of Anderson and Baker, the floodgates opened with  David Perceval, Waisale Nayavucere, and Bayley Maher all crossing over to further their lead to 36-12 by the 68th minute.

The Blues attempted to fight back with George Morseu and Christian Moss both scoring late in the game, but Yass held on to take a 36-20 victory.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 46 d Goulburn City Bulldogs 6

Tuggeranong proved why they are a top four side this week, getting a confident victory over the fifth place Bulldogs with Jack Davison scoring four tries.

The Bushies dominated the game from the start, with Brigham Moeakiola crossing over, and Jack Davison completing his double to give their side an 18-0 lead at the break.

Much like the first half, Tuggeranong continued to control the game with tries continuing to flow. Davison had a field day, scoring a second half double to make it four tries for the match, boosting the Bushies lead to 28-0 in the 53rd minute.

Bradley Arnall scored the Bulldogs only try of the game in the 59th minute, with Isaac Walker converting to make it 28-6.

This shift in momentum didn’t last long with Titan Sega, Blake Murray, and Liam Oakley all scoring to top off a dominant 46-6 win for Tuggeranong.

West Belconnen Warriors 32 d Gungahlin Bulls 18

The Warriors came out victorious in a back and-forth battle with the Bulls as they begin to find form with finals on the horizon.

A strong run from Warrior’s prop Elvis Nauer-Wood saw Westies get their first points on the board and take an early 4-0 lead after the fourth minute.

Gungahlin quickly replied with Jordan Eti scoring in the 17th minute. Bobby Roberts successfully converted to give the Bulls a 6-4 lead.

The Warriors later ran in two unanswered tries through Daniel Killick and Kylan Edwards to take the lead once again before the break with the score reading 16-6.

Westies continued to put their best foot forward after the break, with the home side scoring off the back of a great run and quick play-the-ball by half Daniel Garner. Brandon Withers successfully converted to advance the Warriors lead to 22-6.

The game seemed to be slipping away from the Bulls, with Caleb Edwards taking matters into his own hands as he tried to save the game, scoring a double to reduce the deficit to 22-18 by the 67th minute.

As the Bulls began to gain some hope, the Warriors Harry Brown and Thomas Bethke put the nail in the coffin to lock in an entertaining 32-18 win over the Bulls.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 38 d Woden Valley Rams 18

The Queanbeyan Roos continue to skip away from the remainder of the pack, defeating the second-placed Rams 38-18 at home on Sunday.

After a high-scoring first 40 minutes, it was the Kangaroos who held a tight 20-12 lead at the half.

Queanbeyan strike centre Harry Quinlan continued his strong 2023 try scoring ability, crossing for a double including the final try to round out a strong second-half performance from the Roos.

The Roos will now enjoy an important week off while the Rams will travel to take on a struggling Goulburn side.
