Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 13 Wrap

The Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup competition has heat up, with now five teams separated by two points as the top four battle continues.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 30 defeated Belconnen United Sharks 14

The Bushrangers defeated the Sharks in a second-half performance that held out a persistent Belconnen outfit at Greenway Oval on Saturday.

The win on the weekend takes the Bushies above the Sharks on the ladder to second place in what was a tight encounter decided by key moments in the second half.

In a game that went back and forth for extended periods of time, the sides were only separated by two points at half-time with Belconnen holding a 14-12 lead.

It was a strong second-half performance from the Bushies as three unanswered tries including a try from their hooker Liam Oakley totaled fourteen points across the match.

A double from Josh Webb wasn’t enough to swing the momentum in Sharks favour, unable to score a point in the second half.

Oakley’s perfect record from the boot enabled Tuggeranong to stretch out to a comfortable lead and inevitably secure the win against the Sharks in what's now a three-way tie for second place.

Woden Valley Rams 50 defeated Gungahlin Bulls 28

The Rams piled on the points at Philip Oval, but not without a fight from the Bulls who scored five tries of their own in a 78-point try fest.

A nine-try assault from the Rams including a double from fullback Liam Shaw and back-rower Sean Maloney overwhelmed the Bulls in a 50-28 victory.

A hat-trick from Albert Watego wasn’t enough to inspire the seventh-placed Bulls who gave the Rams a run for their money.

It was the Rams seventh win of the season, overtaking the Sharks on the ladder on points differential.

Rams centre Gideon Afemui kicked seven of the nine-try conversions available, helping them on their way to a high-scoring affair.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 64 defeated Yass Magpies 10

The Kangaroos continue their reign upon the competition putting 64 points on bottom of the table Magpies.

Played at Walker Park, the win away from home for the Kangaroos continue their unbeaten streak this season.

Another dominant display from the Kangaroos should be no surprise to anyone as their 54-point win takes their average points scored per game to 39 this year.

The loss for the Magpies means they remain at the bottom of the table, one point behind the Queanbeyan Blues in eighth place.

A bye for the Magpies next weekend will be a good chance to reset and recoup ahead of their game against the Sharks.

West Belconnen Warriors 24 defeated Goulburn City Bulldogs 18

A six-point win for the Warriors on the road against the Bulldogs propels them above the Bulls into the top five.

A brace from fullback Ryan McQueen was instrumental in their win against the Bulldogs as they continue their three-game undefeated streak.

Brandon Withers managed to kick three from four try conversions in the game however a penalty goal to the Warriors helped extend their lead to six points as the game was coming to a close.

A try to Tyler Cornish adds to his ever-growing tally, totalling eight tries so far taking him to fifth highest this season.

A significant win against the Rams last weekend for Goulburn was not enough to get the edge against the Warriors on Saturday.
