Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 16 Wrap

Round 16 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup saw massive changes to the competition ladder as the end of the regular season draws closer.

Belconnen United Sharks 20 d Woden Valley Rams 14

The Sharks move to second on the ladder after defeating the Rams 20 – 14 in a thrilling back-and-forth game.

Despite early struggles, the Rams struck first with winger Sam Gash scoring to give his side the lead.

The Sharks cracked the scoreboard in the 30th minute through George Wood after a great run through the middle by Matt Woolnough.

The Rams scored the first chance they could in the second half with Scott Swanson scoring, taking a 10 – 4 lead.

The Sharks scored their second try of the match with an offload to Jacob Piper to level the scores.

Rams’ Gideon Afemui scored an acrobatic try in the corner to propel his side into the lead.

The Sharks earned their first lead of the game after Tate Rhea crashed over to score in the 61st minute.

Sonny Tupuola secured the win for the Sharks, showing off his footwork to score in the 78th minute.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 54 d Queanbeyan Blues 6

The Bulldogs move to fifth on the ladder after a one-sided victory over the Blues.

Bulldogs’ winger William Russell was the standout, scoring an extraordinary four tries on the day. 

Goulburn is only a point out from the top four with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Goulburn will enjoy a week off as they have a bye next round while the Blues host the seventh-placed Bulls.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 58 d Gungahlin Bulls 14

The Kangaroos clinched the minor premiership with a statement win against the Bulls.

The Kangaroos were able to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season last round to the Bushrangers.

Queanbeyan will host the second-place Sharks next round in what will be a game to watch.

Meanwhile, Gungahlin will travel to Queanbeyan for their final game of the season as they look to finish on a high.

West Belconnen Warriors 35 d Yass Magpies 18

The Warriors climbed into the top four after defeating the Magpies at home on Sunday afternoon.

Warriors’ winger Brandon Withers added to his team-leading try total, scoring his eighth try of the season.

The Warriors will take on the Rams next weekend in what will be a must-win match for both clubs.

The Magpies will try to turn it around as they travel to Tuggeranong to face the in-form Bushrangers.
