Originally from Tasmania, Sophie Holyman burst onto the rugby league scene during the 2022 NRLW season, joining the Raiders for our inaugural season in 2023.
Sophie didn’t have a junior rugby league club however she has already taken it upon herself to engage with a local Under 13s girls team in Canberra, the Belconnen United Sharks.
This came about following a NRLW Captain’s Run, where Sophie went and mingled with the crowd watching on after the session. After speaking to a father of one of the girls, she offered to come out to training in her own time and help out where she could and regularly attends training when she can.
Sophie has already reached out to our Score Raiders program to become involved with the inclusion program. Sophie showed up to a recent home game off her own accord and handed out gifts to over 20 team members. She brought along some of her team mates to help her with this and has reached out to see if she can attend a weekly training session.
Through Sophie’s disability work with Carers Collective and time spent in the community, Sophie has dedicated much of her time to focusing on spinal cord injuries and this is a real passion for her.
These inspirational roles are just some of the ways Sophie gives back to the Canberra Raiders community.
