Katrina Fanning Shield: Finals Round 1 Preview

It's 1 v 2 in the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield, where our modern rivalry between Yass and Gungahlin will continue in this Sunday's major semifinal.

Tier 1

Yass Magpies v Gungahlin Bulls, 12:00pm Sunday 3 September at Seears Workwear Oval:

This is the first week of finals for these teams as they go head-to-head for a spot in the grand final.

The winner of this game will go straight through to the grand final, while the loser will play the West Belconnen Warriors next weekend.

The Gungahlin Bulls will be going into this game with good results behind them after defeating the West Belconnen Warriors last weekend 52-24 after a slow start to the game.

The Bulls finished second overall on the ladder just one point behind their opponents the Magpies who finished first.

Yass has also had a great season and will be going into the game full of confidence after defeating the Bulldogs last weekend 56-0 and securing the minor premiership.

The last time these teams met was just two weeks ago when the Magpies won by a convincing 42-12 scoreline.

This game will be a big game with both teams looking to get a week off and move straight through to the grand final.

The West Belconnen Warriors head through to next week in the preliminary final after the Goulburn City Bulldogs forfeited this weekend.

Tier 2

Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Queanbeyan Blues 11:00am Saturday 2nd of September at Boorowa Showground

This will be an elimination final with the winner heading to the grand final to face the Harden Worhawks while the loser’s season will come to an end.

Tuggeranong will be looking to continue their roll after defeating the Woden Valley Rams 14-4 last weekend.

The Bushrangers finished third overall at the end of the season while their opponents in the Queanbeyan Blues finished first overall.

The Queanbeyan Blues unfortunately went down against the Worhawks 32-12 last weekend.

The last time these two teams met was in round one when the Blues defeated the Bushrangers in a tight 14-4 game.

This will be a massive game with both teams looking to get the win and gain a spot in the game that determines the season next weekend.
