Katrina Fanning Shield: Week One Finals Wrap

This weekend saw week one of finals for tier one with the Yass Magpies going through to the grand final. While the Queanbeyan Blues defeated Tuggeranong, earning their spot in the tier two grand final this weekend against Harden.

Tier 1

Yass Magpies 22 d Gungahlin Bulls 6

The Yass Magpies have gained a spot in the grand final after defeating the Gungahlin Bulls on Sunday.

The Minor premiers come out shining only letting the Bulls in for one try which was in the first eight minutes of the game.

The game stood at 12-6 for a long time until the 59th minute when the Magpies got a roll on and were hard to stop.

Yass Halfback Tarnayar Hinch controlled her side very well when it mattered most bringing a familiar edge to the Magpies in attack.

Yass have held the upper hand over the Bulls all season with them managing to defeat the Gungahlin side in every game they have played each other.

The Magpies will now sit tight and wait for this week’s game to see who they will face in the grand final.

The Bulls will face the West Belconnen Warriors to see who goes through to the final after Belconnen had a week off.

Tier 2

Queanbeyan Blues 28 d Tuggeranong Bushrangers 8

The Blues have progressed through and knocked the Bushrangers out of the running and will play the Worhawks in the grand final on Saturday.

Payge-Louise Condon was a standout yet again for the Queanbeyan side after winning the best and fairest medal earlier last week.

Condon scored two tries for her side along with four from five conversions which put the edge over the Bushrangers.

Tuggeranong’s season is now over, while Queanbeyan will travel out to Crookwell Memorial Oval on Saturday to face Harden who defeated the Blues in week one of finals.
