Canberra Region Rugby League roll into the Riverina

The CRRL Wheelchair Rugby League program made a successful three-day road trip to Wagga, partnering with Intereach, to grow the sport in the region.

With the help of Intereach, a not-for-profit community organisation that provides support services for children, people with disability and more, we were able to provide Wheelchair Rugby League sessions for Willans Hill School and multiple disability support organisations.

On day one, we welcomed two groups from Willans Hill School where participation included not only the kids but also involved teachers and support staff.

Local disability support services Kurrajong, Omnia, Guthrie Collective, and Ability Gateway attended throughout day two to engage in skills sessions followed by a game of Wheelchair Rugby League.

On the Saturday, we held an exhibition match that featured NSW Wheelchair Rugby League players Toby Popple and Zac Carl, as well as a number of Rolling Raiders representatives, which was officiated by Steve Hewson.

The exhibition match was followed by a come and try event open to the general public which was a massive success.

The day attracted over 50 people including keen players and spectators.

The success of the three days showcases the strong interest and potential for growth of Wheelchair Rugby League in Wagga and the surrounding Riverina region.

The CRRL are continually looking to grow Wheelchair Rugby League within Canberra and the surrounding regions with the long-term goal of a state-wide competition.
