NSW Cup: Round One Wrap

The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup side have started their 2024 campaign off in style, defeating the Knights 38-22 at McDonald Jones Stadium on Thursday night.

The Raiders were off to a flying start, crossing for a try in the very first minute of the match through Jed Stuart to lead 6-nil.

Knights centre Fletcher Meyers was able to answer straight back, scoring Newcastle's first of the afternoon just five minutes later.

Raiders captain Hohepa Puru crashed over for an important try in the 15th minute, sparking plenty of momentum for the Green Machine.

Canberra would then score three tries in the space of seven minutes to place the Raiders in the box seat at halftime, holding a strong 28-10 lead.

Boom fullback Chevy Stuart linked up with James Schiller to score an incredible try after the break, running the length of the field to score under the sticks.

Schiller's try was converted by Adam Cook, who continued his goal-kicking form from the Pre-Season Challenge, slotting five from seven for the afternoon.

The Raiders wrapped up a strong 38-22 victory to begin the season, taking confidence into next Saturday's round two clash against the Magpies at GIO Stadium.
