The Raiders Jersey Flegg Cup side have started their 2024 campaign with a strong 30-18 win over the Newcastle Knights on Saturday afternoon.
Raiders hooker Owen Pattie had a standout performance in the club's round one win, having a hand in all five tries to lead the side to victory.
The Raiders came firing out of the blocks. Prop forward Vena Patuki-Case ran a hard line to crash over for a try next to the posts in the opening five minutes.
The Green Machine then extended their lead out to 18-nil before halftime, courtesy of four-pointers to Mitch Henderson and Tane Kiriona.
Noah Martin chased through an Owen Pattie grubber kick to extend the lead further to 24-nil, only a minute into the second half.
The Knights sparked a comeback, scoring four consecutive tries to put pressure back on the visitors.
Local junior Regan Carr put the nail in the coffin, chasing through a bomb to score under the posts and ice the game.
The Raiders now return home to GIO Stadium, when they take on the Wests Tigers at 11am this Saturday.
