Katrina Fanning Shield: Round One Preview

The Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield makes its return for 2024, with four games set to kick-off Canberra's premier women's tackle competition this Saturday.

Woden Valley Rams v West Belconnen Warriors, 9:30am Saturday 6 April at Phillip Oval

The KFS will be underway with an exciting match-up at Phillip Oval, which sees the reigning premiers West Belconnen travel to take on the Woden Valley Rams.

It was a perfect season for the Warriors last year, tasting premiership glory in their inaugural season in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Rams found it tough after featuring in the 2022 grand final, finishing fourth in the tier two competition.

The Warriors will have the premiership target on their back this weekend as the Rams look to spoil the party with a round one win at home.

Queanbeyan Blues v Gungahlin Bulls, 10:40am Saturday 6 April at Seiffert Oval

The Blues will host the Bulls in a huge round one clash at Seiffert Oval where an important two points will be on offer for two of the competition heavyweights.

Queanbeyan showed plenty of promise in 2023, remaining competitive with the top sides before taking out the tier two premiership against the Bushrangers.

While the visitors will be hungry to avenge their disappointing finals series, which saw them bounce out in straight sets to Yass and West Belconnen.

Saturday morning marks as a big opportunity for two major premiership threats to bag an early victory at Seiffert Oval.

Belconnen United Sharks v Bungendore Kangaroos, 12:00pm Saturday 6 April at NSWRL HQ, Bruce

Bruce will play host to a special fixture at midday this Saturday, which sees two inaugural sides in the Belconnen United Sharks and Bungendore Roos face-off for their first ever match in the KFS.

The Sharks had set their sights on a KFS team for some time, where that will all come to fruition when they take the field this Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Queanbeyan Roos and Bungendore Tigers have collaborated to bring a joint club to the competition for 2024.

With zero form and a number of new players to the game, it will be a great watch to see these two successful CRRL clubs introduce a new side to the Katrina Fanning Shield.

Yass Magpies v Tuggeranong Bushrangers, 12:00pm Saturday 6 April at Walker Park

The Bushies will travel out to Walker Park to take on the Magpies to round out the opening round of the KFS.

These two sides tasted grand final heartbreak in 2023, Yass falling to Westies in the tier one competition, while the Bushies went down to the Blues in tier two.

Both sides boast strong packs coming into this contest, where the forecasted wet weather may fall onto the shoulders of the forwards in a tough clash.

The Bushies will look to cause an upset on the road in round one, where Yass will be hungry following their devastating grand final defeat.
