Jersey Flegg Cup: Round 10 Preview

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg Cup side will travel to Prince Charles Park, Nadi this Saturday to take on the Fiji Silktails for the first time in the club's history.

The Silktails joined the Jersey Flegg Cup competition in 2024, further strengthening the pathways in Fiji.

Saturday's contest is not only the first time the two sides have met, but they will be playing in honour of Raider #151 Noa Nadruku, one of the first Fiji internationals to play in the NRL.

Raiders assistant coach Darby Medlyn touched on the incredible opportunity to play in Fiji and how special it is to play for the Noa Nadruku Bowl.

"It’s a great opportunity for us to be able to go over to Fiji, it’s going to be a pretty cool experience. As everyone knows, the Fijian teams are really exciting teams. The style of footy they play is really special. Just to have the opportunity for us to go over there is awesome," Medlyn said.

"Noa was a really big part of the Raiders success through the late 80s and early 90s. We heard that the place that they play is right next to his village where he grew up, so that will be a really cool experience as well."

The Raiders enter this contest after a tight 24-16 loss to the Manly Sea Eagles last weekend.

In-form Raiders hooker Owen Pattie believes his side have learned from that performance and are out to bounce back to the consistent form which sees them sit top of the ladder.

"We’ve been lucky to start the year off with the games we’ve won but unfortunate last week, a tight game got away from us but we’re ready to build this week," Pattie said.

"We know what kind of football those boys can play and we’ve watched their video and they are very talented and skillful players.

"Nothing will change with our preparation. We’ll still look to start the game well and be consistent which we’ve been looking to do all season so hopefully we can just put in a good performance and get the two points."

The Silktails will be chasing their first win in 2024 after a challenging start to their inaugural season.

The game will kick off at 10am (AEST) on Saturday morning.
