Canberra Raiders Cup: Round Eight Wrap

Round Eight of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup saw intense match ups around the grounds as we near the halfway point of the season.

Belconnen United Sharks 22 defeat Tuggeranong Bushrangers 18

The Belconnen United Sharks claimed a close victory away from home against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers.

A man of the match performance from Owen Hromow and a try scoring double from back rower Sonny Tupuola assisted Belconnen in their four point win.

Despite falling short of claiming the two competition points, there were positives for the Bushrangers including a double for Julian Haywood-Whiley.

The Sharks will look to make it three wins in a row against the West Belconnen Warriors, while the Bushrangers face the Queanbeyan Blues fresh off the bye.

Woden Valley Rams 28 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 0

The Woden Valley Rams continued their strong start to the season with a comprehensive victory over the Gungahlin Bulls at home last Saturday afternoon.

The five try to nil victory sees the Rams cement themselves at the top of the table, whilst the Bulls suffer their sixth loss of the season in the process.

Ron Leapai secured a try-scoring double alongside four pointers from Spencer, Salim and Afemui ensured Woden Valley claimed their third win in a row.

Gungahlin will have the weekend off to reset as they look to overturn five straight losses, meanwhile the Rams travel to Yass to face the Magpies next Saturday.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 58 defeat Yass Magpies 0

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos claimed a dominant victory over the Yass Magpies in front of their home fans at Seears Workwear Oval last weekend.

The Kangaroos have reminded the competition about their attacking prowess with doubles to Kaine Pagura, Jake Kiely and Jaxen Yow ensuring a fifty-eight point win.

The Magpies disappointing start to the season has continued with the loss resulting in Yass remaining at the bottom of the Canberra Raiders Cup ladder.

The Kangaroos will look to continue their form against the Goulburn City Bulldogs next weekend, while the Magpies will host the table topping Rams.

West Belconnen Warriors 20 defeat Goulburn City Bulldogs 16

The West Belconnen Warriors secured a tight four point victory away from home against the Goulburn City Bulldogs.

The win for the Warriors ensures that they maintain contact with the top four as they currently sit outside a finals spot on for and against.

The Bulldogs suffered their sixth loss of the season, currently avoiding last position on for and against.

West Belconnen travel to their cross town rivals in the Sharks next weekend, while the Bulldogs welcome the Queanbeyan Kangaroos at Workers Arena.
