Draws highlight a big weekend of GTS action

Close contests highlighted a thrilling Round Six of Blumers Lawyers George Tooke Shield league tag action.

There was not one, but two draws, with four of the competition heavyweights forced to share points.

In the most significant result of the round, the all-conquering Hardens Hawkettes were held to a 16-all draw by the Crookwell She Devils.

Playing at McLean Oval, the She Devils nearly caused the upset of the season, and with both sides scoring three tries a piece, they couldn’t be separated when the final siren rang out.

Another scintillating result was played out just down the road from Harden at Cootamundra, with the Bullettes and Binalong Brahmans drawing 18-all.

In a game in which both teams scored four tries, missed conversions were the story of the day, as the Bullettes and Brahmans were forced to share the points.

The draws highlight the closeness of the top five. Harden is still on top with 11 points but only one game ahead of Cootamundra and Crookwell, who are both on nine points. Binalong rounds out the top four with eight points.

The North Canberra Bears aren’t far off the pace following their Round Six win over the Bungendore Tigers.

Playing at Kaleen, the Bears moved into outright fifth with a 22-10 win over the Tigers.

In the only one-sided game of the round, Boorowa kept the UC Stars winless, winning 34-nil at Raiders Belconnen.

With a four-try effort, Eliza Taylor led the Roverettes to a comfortable six-try victory.

Bulldogs bite down on Brahmans

The Cootamundra Bulldogs put the George Tooke Shield on notice in Round Six of the competition following their decisive 38-20 win over the Binalong Brahmans.

Stepping onto Les Boyd Oval, the Brahmans rode high on an undefeated streak. However, with just one loss under their belt, the Bulldogs proved to be an unstoppable force at home, triumphing with a score of seven tries to four.

Pasa Leautuli scored a hat-trick of tries while playing in the centres as the Bulldogs moved to second on the ladder.

In the biggest win of the round, Bungendore moved to the top of the ladder following their dominant 12-try, 54-6 victory over North Canberra at Kaleen.

A Matt McKenna hat-trick led the barnstorming Bears, while Jake Wheeler and Michael Gordon each crossed for doubles.

In a tough fixture, Harden won again, registering an 18-10 victory over Crookwell at McLean Oval.

Rounding out a big Round Six was Boorowa’s 38-18 win over the UC Stars, where Josh Dean and Matthew Canellis both scored doubles.
