Katrina Fanning Shield: Round Eight Wrap

A top four clash highlighted Round Eight of the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield over the weekend, which saw Woden serve Gungahlin their first loss in 2024.

Woden Valley Rams 22 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 20

The Woden Valley Rams secured a two point victory over the Gungahlin Bulls who suffered their first loss of the season in the process.

Rams centre Tamsyn Cairns claimed a try scoring double which proved the difference in a tightly contested affair.

Tijana Zdraveska was Gungahlin’s best with her two tries not enough for the Bulls to maintain their undefeated start of the season.

The Rams will look to continue their impressive form against the Magpies in Yass next weekend, while the Bulls have the opportunity to regroup after their first loss as they have the bye.

Belconnen United Sharks 30 defeat Tuggeranong Bushrangers 8

The Belconnen United Sharks claimed a strong twenty-two point victory away from home against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers.

Sharks hooker Angelina Costa claimed a hat trick in the six tries to two victory which saw Belconnen United claim their second win of the year in the process.

Tries for Fazey-Robinson and Eppelstun for the Bushrangers were highlights for Tuggeranong, however the loss sees them fall to seventh on the Katrina Fanning Shield table.

The Bushrangers will look to overcome the loss when they travel to Seiffert Oval to face the Blues, while the Sharks face crosstown rivals in the Warriors at home.

West Belconnen Warriors 28 defeat Goulburn City Bulldogs 10

The West Belconnen Warriors secured a strong victory over the Goulburn City Bulldogs at Workers Arena last weekend.

The Warriors have cemented their spot in the top four after an eighteen point victory which combined strong attacking and defensive play.

The Bulldogs suffered their fourth loss in a row and sixth this season which sees them currently sit in eighth position.

West Belconnen will face their rivals in the Sharks next weekend, while Goulburn City face the Bungendore Kangaroos away from home.
