Canberra Raiders Cup: Round Nine Wrap

Nothing was left in the tank after Round Nine of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup, as we head into the competition break this weekend.

Belconnen United Sharks 34 defeat West Belconnen Warriors 12

Belconnen United secured a big win over their local rivals, West Belconnen, with a clinical second half performance in front of a home crowd at NSWRL HQ.

With the scores reading 12-6 Sharks way into the second half, the home side went onto score four in a row, including a double from centre Tevita Aroha-Tuinauvai, to blow out the margin and put the game to bed.

Sharks halfback Matt Woolnough was awarded best on ground for guiding his side around the park to a dominant Belconnen derby win.

Five-eighth Calab Edwards was West Belconnen's best, as he set up their first try and scored their second.

Both sides face tough opponents when we return to footy in two weeks, with West Belconnen hosting Woden, and the Sharks coming up against the Kangaroos.

Queanbeyan Blues 38 defeat Tuggeranong Bushrangers 18

The Queanbeyan Blues found their mojo in the back-end of the game to run away with a healthy 20-point win over Tuggeranong at Seiffert Oval on Saturday.

It was locked up at 18-all with just over 20 minutes left before the Blues scored four unanswered tries to secure the two-points and hold their position in second on the ladder.

The Bushrangers were low on troops heading into this game, which saw Liam Oakley out of his usual position at halfback, Michael Brophy filling in at five-eighth, and Lachlan Cunanan stepping up to play on the wing.

All three were impressive as they scored a try each to keep Tuggeranong in the contest.

In Round 10, the Bushrangers will host Yass, while the Blues travel to Gungahlin to face the Bulls.

Woden Valley Rams 22 defeat Yass Magpies 12

The Woden Valley Rams travelled north to Walker Park where they clinched victory in a tight contest against the Yass Magpies.

It was a back-and-forth affair with Yass leading 12-10 into the second half, before Woden scored two tries in the back end of the game to secure the win.

Rams five-eighth Brendan Jimenez was influential for his side, as he scored the first two tries of the game.

Both teams will face strong opponents away from home in Round 10, as Yass come up against Tuggeranong, and Woden match up with West Belconnen.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 28 defeat Queanbeyan Kangaroos 26

The Goulburn City Bulldogs have caused an upset against the defending premiers, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos, with an exciting two-point win at home.

The Bulldogs were trailing by 10-points with only a few minutes before they scored two quick tries with Isaac Walker slotting both conversions to steal the game.

After struggling on the bottom of the ladder for the majority of the season so far, the Bulldogs leapfrog two spots from this win and now sit in seventh.

Roos captain-coach and halfback Sam Williams had a standout performance for his side, crossing for a double with some deceptive ball running.

Goulburn will have the next two weeks off with the bye in Round 10, while the Roos focus their attention to their match up with the Belconnen United Sharks.
