With just two wins separating them from the top five of the Blumers Lawyers George Tooke Shield (GTS) men’s tackle competition, the North Canberra Bears are teetering on the edge of ‘must-win’ territory.
As they gear up for the final six rounds of the regular season, the Bears are under immense pressure to secure their spot in finals. A daunting run home commences on Saturday when they host the Binalong Brahmans at Kaleen.
In Round Seven, the Bears made a resounding statement, firing back into contention and defeating 2023 grand finalists Crookwell 26-14 at Crookwell Memorial Oval.
This victory showcased their potential and set the stage for their upcoming battles.
On Saturday, they lost a vital fixture, going down to Boorowa 30-16 at Boorowa Showground.
When hosting the Brahmans, the Bears will be searching for consistency in their performances so they can repeat the run home from 2023, which saw them finish fifth and qualify for the finals.
The Brahmans will be working just as hard for a win on Saturday. The team from Binalong is targeting top spot and a top-three finish.
Not to be outdone, the Brahmans ended a two-game losing streak in Round Eight, showing their resilience and defeating Crookwell 18-10.
This win serves as a reminder of their strength and sets the stage for a competitive match against the Bears.
Interestingly, when these sides met back in Round Two, Binalong won 46-4 at Binalong Recreation Reserve.
In remaining GTS Round Nine fixtures, Crookwell hosts Cootamundra at Crookwell Memorial Oval, Boorowa visits Bungendore at Mick Sherd Oval, and Harden takes on the visiting UC Stars at McLean Oval.

Heavyweights set to collide at Crookwell
The opportunity to stay in the GTS league tag minor premiership race and move one step closer to locking up a top-three finish will be on the table at Crookwell Memorial Oval on Saturday.
It’s set to be a titanic battle as heavyweights Crookwell and Cootamundra meet in their Round Nine fixture.
The second-placed Bullettes will turn up to Crookwell with just one loss to their name in 2024, and they haven’t dropped a game since going down to the ladder-leading Harden Hawkettes 20-14 back in Round Three.
Crookwell will be stinging after losing to Binalong 12-6 in Round Eight, their second loss of the season.
The She Devils had been playing good rugby league and will be out to rediscover their winning form against the hot-to-trot Bullettes.
In other Round Nine GTS league tag matches, the UC stars host the Harden Hawkettes at Raiders Belconnen, Binalong visits North Canberra at Kaleen, and Bungendore takes on the travelling Boorowa Roverettes at Mick Sherd Oval.
