Tries galore in George Tooke Shield

Attacking rugby league was at its finest in Round 10 of the 2024 Blumers Lawyers George Tooke Shield (GTS), with significant results highlighting another big Saturday of country footy.

With the top four teams, Cootamundra, Bungendore, Binalong, and Harden, all earning wins, some of the statistics are simply incredible.

The winning teams truly dominated in Round 10, averaging an impressive 50 points and a staggering 37.5 points for the average winning margin.

This level of dominance is a testament to the thrilling nature of the GTS.

Headlining Saturday’s matches was Cootamundra’s dominant 70-nil victory over the North Canberra Bears at Les Boyd Oval.

Cooper Emonson is one of the more exciting young players in the competition, and the backrower crossed for a hat-trick of tries in the big win.

Gollone Fata scored a double, and the remaining eight tries were evenly distributed among the Bulldogs, showcasing their collective effort in the game against the Bears.

The Bulldogs' victory keeps them at the top of the table and significantly challenges North Canberra’s chances of making it to the finals.

Not to be outdone, the Binalong Brahmans defeated the UC Stars again, this time 62-10 at Binalong Recreation Oval.

Andrew Swaffield and Dane Howard crossed for doubles, while captain/coach Chris Rawlinson kicked 9 of 11 conversions and scored a try on his way to an impressive 22 points.

It was a much closer contest than many expected in Crookwell, with the Bungendore Tigers defeating the Crookwell Green Devils 36-22 at Crookwell Memorial Oval.

While Charles Dawson scored a hat-trick for the home side, Bradley Laurent led from the front for Bungendore, with the George Tooke Shield representative captain scoring a double as the Tigers held on for a 14-point victory.

In a huge result that has Harden knocking on the door of a top-three finish, the Hawks defeated reigning premiers Boorowa 32-18 at McLean Oval.

Williams Hills continued his strong season to date with a hat-trick of tries, and William Manwaring crossed for a double as Harden held off the Rovers by 14 points.
