Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 14 Wrap

Round 14 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup saw some close encounters which held massive ramifications for teams looking to qualify for finals.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 18 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 16

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers claimed a tight two point victory over the Gungahlin Bulls to keep their finals chances alive.

Tries to Temple Rupapera, Wezley Alexander-McCarthuy and Thomas Lunney ensured the Bushrangers claimed victory to stay in touch with the top four and keep their faint finals chances alive.

Meanwhile, the Bulls suffered their 10th loss of the season which sees them remain second last on the ladder.

Gungahlin will look to bounce back against a tough Kangaroos outfit, while the Bushrangers will use the bye to recharge for their finals push.

Woden Valley Rams 26 defeat Queanbeyan Blues 16

The Woden Valley Rams ascended to the top of the Canberra Raiders Cup after a tight encounter against the Queanbeyan Blues in front of an enthusiastic old boys crowd.

A man of the match performance from five eight Brendan Jimenez, along with a try scoring double to Sam Gash ensured the Rams returned to the top of the competition ladder.

Despite the loss, late inclusion Josh Billing was instrumental scoring all three of Queanbeyan’s tries in a tough afternoon for the usually potent Blues attacking outfit.

The Woden Valley Rams will look to continue their form against the Belconnen United Sharks away from home, while the Blues will aim to bounce back against the Goulburn City Bulldogs.

Belconnen United Sharks 24 defeat Goulburn City Bulldogs 18

The Belconnen United Sharks defeated a valiant Goulburn City Bulldogs outfit by six points to cement themselves inside the top four and sink the Bulldogs finals chances in the process.

In a week where fellow finals contenders the Bushrangers picked up a win, Sharks winger Connor Massen scored two tries ensuring they remained two wins clear of fifth with four rounds to play.

Despite two tries from back rower Matthew Sherer, the loss for the Bulldogs all but means they will miss out on finals action sitting three wins behind the Sharks needing a miracle to qualify.

The Belconnen United Sharks finals credentials will be tested this weekend when they welcome the table topping Rams to NSWRL HQ, whilst the Bulldogs will face the second placed Blues at home.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 56 defeat West Belconnen Warriors 6

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos secured a comprehensive fifty point victory over the West Belconnen Warriors at Raiders Belconnen on Saturday afternoon.

In a crucial round of football, the Kangaroos cemented their position inside the top four with a collective team performance, Captain Coach Sam Williams and Jesse Dent scoring two tries each in a 10 try outing for Queanbeyan.

Five eighth Calab Edwards crossed for the only Warriors try, however the loss places a dent in their finals aspirations falling to sixth place and two wins outside of the top four.

The Kangaroos will aim to continue their charge to a top two finish next weekend when they face the Gungahlin Bulls, whilst the Warriors face the Yass Magpies away from home.
