NRL Match Preview: Raiders v Warriors

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders are refreshed and return home to host the New Zealand Warriors this Friday night at GIO Stadium.

After a string of tough matches, Canberra is returning from a week off with the bye, determined to prove their performance in-front of their home fans this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are in a similar boat, looking to make a finals run after a string of losses and the bye last weekend.

Talking Points

  • Jamal Fogarty and Zac Hosking make their anticipated return this round after long-term injuries suffered in the early stages of the season.
  • Hudson Young returns to the starting side after missing their round 18 clash against the Knights.
  • Warriors captain Tohu Harris has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a wrist injury.
  • Warriors forwards Mitch Barnett and Kurt Capewell are named to back up from Origin.
  • Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes has scored five tries in his past six games.

Last Time They Met

In Round 3, the Raiders suffered a close 18-10 loss against the Warriors at Apollo Projects Stadium, Christchurch.

Key Matchup

Jordan Rapana v Dallin Watene-Zelezniak

In anticipation for this Friday Night when the Raiders face the Warriors, the attention will be focused on two forceful wingers.

Jordan Rapana continues to showcase his longevity for the Raiders and has been a key player in both attack and defence in 2024.

With years of experience, 213 appearances and 108 tries to Rapana’s name, he looks to be a testing player to opposing winger Watene-Zelezniak.

On the opposing side, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak will look to lift this side with his strong carries, averaging 145 metres per game this season.

Watene-Zelezniak is also an experienced winger, having played 205 NRL games and represented at the international level.

As this match gets closer, this match-up on the wing will be important as either player will look to lift their side with their strong hit-ups and try scoring ability.

Head to Head

In the past three years of match ups against one another, the Warriors hold a 4-1 advantage where Canberra look determined to alter this.
