Raiders score big win at home over Souths

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders have defeated South Sydney 32-12 to score a big win at GIO Stadium on Sunday night.

It was a monumental game over the weekend as Captain Elliott Whitehead celebrated his 200th Raiders game.

Canberra built early momentum where Hudson Young offloaded to Jordan Rapana to score the first points of the match. 

As the Rabbitohs struggled to hold their defensive line, with a kick and chase Xavier Savage successfully planted the ball down, extending the Raiders lead to 12-0.

With 20 minutes to go, Canberra weakened the Rabbitohs defense as Sebastian Kris crossed the line to bring the score to 18-0.

The Rabbitohs broke through the Raiders defense, successfully scoring through Taane Milne to cut the lead to 18-4.

Quick thinking from Jamal Fogarty, a kick to the left hand side of the field aided Jordan Rapana to score with ease.

The Rabbitohs hit back as Cody Walker sped through on the wing successfully scoring a four pointer.

Canberra headed into the sheds with a 20-4 point lead determined to continue this performance into the second half.

Minutes into the second half, Raiders forward Ata Mariota ran straight through the Rabbitohs defense to score under the goalposts to extend the lead to 30-8.

The Raiders were unable to hold the Rabbitohs defense as Tallis Duncan successfully planted the ball, closing the gap to a 30-12 deficit. 

Jamal Fogarty converted a penalty goal with nine minutes remaining, putting the score out to a 32-12 lead.

Captain Elliott Whitehead was sin binned for a professional foul right on the stroke of fulltime. The Raiders defended the final play to go out 32-12 winners.

The Raiders will look to continue this momentum next Sunday coming up against the Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground.
